I grew up in Greenwich CT in the 1980s - that was a preppy town.

Unless you really KNOW preppy in this way, you should seriously stop trying to guess what it is, or means.

Anyway, its an ancient concept and not really so relevant today, thank god.

I doubt it. But I think it is a code for conservative.

No i don't think it is - it's code word for white Umc

It stems from one of the biggest things parents look for in a school - the dating/mating/social pool.

I'm the poster from 9:19 and this is exactly what I meant. People like to socialize with people like themselves. For instance, the percentage of white, prep school kids is much higher at NESCAC schools than the ivy league.

You don't know what you're talking about and why would you qualify the prep school kids with their race? I think that speaks volumes about your agenda. NESCAC and Ivy's have very comparable percentages of students entering from private vs. public.

Because maybe there are people who like being around people who are similar to them. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I know "diversity" is a big thing for most colleges these days. If you wanna go to a super ethnically/socioeconomically diverse college, that's fine. Some people don't. Get over it.

People should be themselves and learn to get along with everyone.

I've seen many threads and posts wondering about, assessing and bragging about the "preppiness" of various colleges. What gives? Is "preppy," whatever that means, really something folks care about when looking at colleges? Why?
