I live in northern VA and have seen quite a few around on houses and cars. DH and I like it but choose not to display one. We are private people. Personally I look at it as meaning less government control and more individual rights. Just that. I am not affiliated with any political party.

If the flag has been co-opted by the tea party to send a message and OP wants to use it to send a message but doesn't ascribe to the tea party's agenda seems logical OP wouldn't use this flag. All that what you said does not apply or make sense in this situation.

Read your history, and then decide what you think. Anything these days can be perceived as offensive in some way or another. Last summer, my son overheard someone saying that the Cleveland Browns should change their name because it was offensive. Everything is offensive. Everyone seems to be offended. Except for me. I don't care. Do what you want, and if someone gets offended, that's their problem, not yours. The connotation to me was the 13 colonies. Now I associate it with the Tea Party.

It's the flag of the Tea Party, so yeah. My understanding is that interpretation varies. Some people believe it to stand for "individual rights" but I've seen it paired with strong anti reproductive rights stickers, so it's fluid and frequently hypocritical depending on what the person believes in for themselves (but not for others).

Stand for what you believe in, or fall for anything. That's what all of our revered flags stand for: US, POW, Gadsen, and yes, the Confederate too.

I read about the "Don't tread on me" flag (called the Gadsden flag) online. I see it sometimes around the DC area, especially in Virginia as I get further from DC. Is there any objectionable connotation to this flag as there is with the Confederate flag? I like it and would like to put one in front of my DC home, but don't want bricks through my window.
