Subject: What are your DCs doing this summer?
Well, these are some impressive kids. Congrats to all.
OP - There's also been an increase in posts to our listserve about kids who will be around looking for babysitting and dog walking. The bunch of parents who reported have some wonderful kids - whether they have a prestigious position, or just worked out how to work hard and earn some cash.

Subject: What are your DCs doing this summer?
Rising sophomore. Interning at our Congressman's office.20-24 hours per week. He's considering a poly sci major so it should be interesting. No other plans. We don't want to tie up our summer as DS plays football and our time is short as he will have to return to school early.

DC worked for a very well known San Francisco startup last summer after freshman year. It was an enriching experience in terms of responsibility and substantive work. This summer they will work for a large West Coast investment firm. Both jobs pay very well, but SF is expensive. This summer they will live with family and be able to save what they earn.

Internship at consulting firm - $5,500/month. Can't imagine he'll actually go to work for one, but this summer will pay for a nice long trip after graduation.

Internship at educational software headquartered at university. $16/hr all summer. Second summer for same company. Just finished SULI internship in California last semester. Rising junior.

Thank you for sharing this info. Did your sophomore work full time last summer as a cashier? I might encourage my dc to start looking there.

Junior, 13 weeks, $15/hour, 30 hours a week (the max they will allow). Analyst for a trade association.
Earned more last summer but needs the work experience.

10 weeks, $6600 stipend, research program associated with DC's university, but located far away (on a beach). Comes at a good time (end of first year) to help DC make a decision about major/subfield.

The internship thread got me thinking about what college kids are doing this summer. If employed, how many hours are they working? What is the approximate wage? My DC is still looking to find a decent paying job...
