Subject: Camping recommendations about 3 hours from DC?
Big Bend campground in Monongahela in WV. On bend of Potomac. Tubing and swimming. More like 3.5 hour drive though.

Black Moshannon State Park is closer to 4 hours from DC, but the campsites were nice and there is a beach and lake and blueberry picking. They have a nice camp store with prepared food and stuff you can cook. We went when there was a lumberjack competition.
Closer to DC, we camped at Catoctin Mountain and that was good too. A whole bunch of trails (some quite challenging) and you can cross over to the state park to see waterfalls.

Rocky Gap State Park - nice bathhouses, lake swimming with lifeguard, playground, nature center with free programs, etc.

I agree with two of the above. They're popular - book early.
Cape Henlopen
Greenbrier State Park (nice lake, with lifeguard, within walking distance of campsites)
Assateague State Park (bathrooms were recently renovated and very nice!) - not the national park side

I believe Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, DE has campsites. There's another state park between Rehoboth and Bethany that also has sites and is right on the water.

Looking for tent camping recommendations about 3 hours from DC.
Ideally, there would be:
swimming (preferably in the ocean or bay, but lakes could work as well),
bathrooms nearby (I don't want to hike in, I'm more of a "car camping" person with bathrooms - with flush toilets! - a short walk away)
We don't need all of the amenities that Jellystone or KOA provide, but aren't necessarily against the idea. Other than the "swimming in 'not a pool'" idea, the Harpers Ferry KOA http://www.harpersferrykoa.com/ would do nicely - has anyone on these boards been there lately?
