OP. They have problems just like anyone else. Their family lives seem better pulled together because they emphasize family more than any other religion. That said, I know two Mormon families really well and they have seen ten times more (and I mean that) adultery and serial monogamy than my Jewish husbands family has had. They aren't proud of it but there are some messy stories. In one family all three sisters had been married three times. Another uncle had been married and divorced five times. Now part of that is that the only way they can have sex is through marriage, and if they get passionate, there's no waiting. But trust me. They have their messes.

Not OP but it's hardly unusual that someone hasn't gotten to know Mormons. I grew up in a fairly large city and don't think I really knew any maybe I was acquaintances but summer work at some but I had no friends that were- The only thing I know about them is that they are very principled and for the most part very good people

I grew up in Arizona and knew a lot of Mormons. I also knew Mormons in law school. They seemed like the nicest people. But then I had a summer internship with a law firm in Salt Lake City. That was totally different. 70% of the population is Mormon and 90% of the legislators are Mormon. If you weren't willing to convert, you had no future there.

My HS boyfriend was Mormon. I am not. So yes, Mormons date outside their faith in high school and maybe college, while waiting to get "called" for their missions.

But after their missions, they are pretty intent on getting married and starting a family, so they either date Mormon women, or women who are willing to convert.

Don't be too surprised if this family is VERY encouraging of your son dating their daughter. It's perfectly fine, as long as he's a polite kid who doesn't drink/smoke/use drugs and doesn't try to get their daughter into bed. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book to get young people to convert to the LDS religion. Conversion is practically non-existant for MC/UMC/UC Americans unless it's through marriage nowadays. If he dates this girl, he will most likely be invited to go to church with the family, join in on young men's activities, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but the pressure to officially convert will definitely happen if the relationship becomes more serious. Most LDS girls will not be willing to marry outside the temple, and that causes a lot of hurt feelings for the non-LDS family members, who understandably are not happy about not being allowed to attend the wedding of their child or grandchild or nephew.

How old is the daughter? Officially Mormons aren't allowed to date until they're 16. Some will date casually outside of the faith. When it comes to marriage, the devout will only marry other Mormons.

They can date non-Mormons, but typically expect the person to join the faith prior to marriage.

The religion is very strict so the followers generally conform to social conventions (as the church defines them).

Also, the wonderful Mormon family I know is aware that many people have no prior direct experience with Mormons, so they really try to make the most positive impact they can in an attempt to dispel any preconceived negative thoughts.

So my husband is doing a deal with this powerhouse Mormon guy from either NY or CT. He is extraordinarily wealthy and successful. They were here a week ago and our 2 families got together. What a lovely picture perfect family!! I was intrigued as don't think I have ever known a Morman. I did notice they did not drink and had the most polite manners. They were some of the loveliest people I have ever met.

My youngest son and their D hit it off....really had a connection. But i dont think they pursue romantic relationships outside their faith? My son is going up there for summer and they spoke of meeting up but I would guess they only date fellow Mormans. They almost seemed too good to be true, was really impressed with them....does anyone know much about them? So curious....
