I was so glad I agreed to induction at 39wks as when baby was born - besides being 9lbs 10oz - doc said placenta was really pretty much done. Induction was easy, baby healthy. My others were 41 and 43 weeks (a real 43 as I got pregnant 2wks after DnC missed/miscarriage)

Think its fairly common and if you can and your Dr gives his blessing...why not.

I scheduled my induction for 39w 4d. I was just DONE with this pregnancy. Water broke and baby arrived hours before I was due to check in for the induction. I like to think I hurried it along

What is the reason you are thinking about inducing? I have friends who were induced b/c of health concerns and some had decent experiences - others not.

For my 3rd child, I had discussed a scheduled induction as my previous labor was very quick (50 minutes from 1st sign of labor to baby born). We decided against it which was fine. Labor for child 3 was almost twice as long as it was for child #2.

I wouldn't do it for a first baby, but I did do it for my third at 40 weeks. That was so I could be sure I had my DH with me and the older kids taken care of.

After 39 weeks is fine. I did hear that they practice sucking at the very end, so it may be easier to breastfeed if baby goes the full 40. Up to you.

I think post new ACOG recommendations, more and more providers will be ok with it as long as you are 39 weeks when you induce.

I'd induce at 39 weeks if in late 30s/40s or had any complications.

Did you try membrane sweep? I would ask for that before inducing especially before 39 weeks.


Also, anecdotally, I think that later born babies are easier- they sleep better and nurse better.

I had both of mine at 39 weeks because I was so over being pregnant and headed toward preeclampsia with one. It worked out fine. You are already dialated, it should be fairly straightforward.

ACOG recommendations are to avoid induction before 39 weeks.

I had spontaneous labor at 38+2 and found that my baby was very lethargic until closer to 40 weeks. She was 100% fine, just required more effort to get her to wake up to eat and gain weight.

I did it. We were moving to a new city a few weeks after the due date. To give me that much more time to recover before going. Plus if I went as much as a week over the due date, it would have been very very tight between the birth & move.

One practice doc was not for it. He mentioned the risk of ending in CS if the induction wasn't going to work.

Another doc in the same practice was like, "there is a chance you need a CS every single time you go in to deliver. You're smaller anyway. Let's just get this baby out at 39w."

We induced. She was born successfully.
