all good answers. No gift needed, other than your efforts to make the day festive. (decorations at breakfast, favorite breakfast. Let him choose what's for dinner.) A card that is a voucher for the experiential gift.

A package of socks. A box of his favorite cereal. A toy for the dog/cat/guinea pig. A can of soup to take to the next school canned food drive. A nice rock that you found on a hike.

DS turns 12 soon and he has no ideas for birthday gifts. He already has much of what he would want - laptop, DS, xbox, ipad.
Money is probably what we will give but I would still like to wrap some gifts.
What are some unique ideas for gifts that others have run across?
