True. But for most people's workplaces, SWS is on the way to work from Brookland whereas Cap City more likely to be in opposite direction.

Thanks, but we don't want to give up our ultra-short commutes, and we love Brookland and our house and friends. Moving will not be on the table until DD2 strikes out in the lottery for PK3 at least.

We stayed at our EOTP Title 1 elementary for K this year and found it to be an excellent experience. I have no complaints and feel like all my child's needs were met. In my ideal world, there would have been a bit more communication from the teacher and school in general, but I don't think that is necessarily something that would be solved at a different school. It is the nature of children getting older.

Anyway, our experience was positive enough that we are staying for First grade. I won't pretend that we aren't a bit nervous, but we are also very hopeful. So far, so good.

My point is, I don't think K is necessarily when you need to be most worried. If you have to stay at your school through the end of K, it might be ok and your child will probably be fine.

Thanks PPs. I did apply to Inspired Teaching, DD has just had a reallu bad number both times. I will look at Bridges.

We don't want to move because we both walk to work. And we will have sibling preference for 1st grade. So I am not desperate yet

You should be applying to Bridges and Inspired Teaching. Both are excellent schools and nearby.

Also look in to Cap City. Bunker Hill. CMI. You won't likely like all of these schools but you will like one and should include that on your list. At K you can start including DCPS schools. Perhaps Shepard.

Do you need to change your strategy? Probably. Will you end up with a school you are pleased with? Probably. Will it be perfect? No school is.

At K some kids who were in PK3-PK4 at charters move to their in-bound highly-regarded DCPS school, especially if they didn't have sibling preference to ensure their spot earlier (e.g., at Janney, Brent). Also, some families getting free PK in DC plan a move out of DC at K when they can start public school somewhere else. So getting in at K is possible.

Mundo Verde and Stojes are seeking approval to open new schools. They both plan on starting with PK3, PK4 and K students. Watch what happens.
