Wow? $100 for delivery now? It might be cheaper to rent a pickup and haul it home yourself.

Alas, RELS now charges around $100 for delivery, but otherwise they are a quality place to buy bulk soil. I also recommend Grey Goose Farm (same delivery charges), which sells a special soil mix they call "Veggie Magic". It's kind of expensive (around $80/yard if I remember right), but it's been awesome in my raised beds.

You don't want random dirt, OP, for a soil that will grow edibles. Our front yard is filled with construction debris (stones, nails, pieces of glass, bricks) under the lawn. That's what fill dirt is.

Are you serious? OP is looking for soil for a vegetable garden. Who would use free fill dirt for that?

If you can borrow a pickup truck it will be pretty cheap to get a couple of cubic yards from a nursery or a landscaping place like RELS (they used to charge $32/cu. yd of topsoil). Delivery charges are expensive (RELS charged $35 several years ago) and are best for a full load of 8 cubic yards.

Specifically, 40 cubic feet of gardening dirt for a raised vegetable garden?
I've seen the bags at Home Depot but I think it'll be close to $140 dollars. Any other places for bulk dirt? Maybe delivered?
