That was still the offer to my D.C. Who is on this year's uva waitlist.

It's a really remote, really pretty school was nice people and a good atmosphere. I have a close friend who teaches there and I have visited. I don't know about the rights to UVA, but I can tell you about the area.

It is REMOTE! 7 hours solid from DC. There is a Walmart and a few shops for basics (a Bealls, maybe?) but very little else. Some decent restaurants - like a handful. My friend lives in Norton, the next town from Wise, and both are cute small towns. People are really friendly. Coal country. The next town over is where the novels about Big Stone Gap are set. There's a cute used bookstore.

If you're into nature, it's beautiful in the mountains. If your kids wanted to study science or ecology I think it would be a good fit. Seems like a very close knit community at the university.

Not super diverse. But not too rednecky.

20 yrs ago when I was applying to college, this was my understanding of UVA Wise. That it was a feeder school for UVA

Better experience than community college. At least they're going away.

The OP asked about transfer to UVA. UVA doesn't guarantee transfer from Wise, but they do for community college.

+1. Just to put it in perspective, the nearest mall is 1hr15min away and that's pretty dumpy. It's 7 hours from Fairfax with no stops. It's not any easier to transfer to uva Charlottesville from uva wise than any other Va school.
