What if Deal and Hardy were merged into one school, with two grades at the Deal campus and one at the Hardy campus? The attendance boundaries would be everyone who is in-boundary for Wilson, so everyone feeding Wilson would have the same middle school experience. There's something for everyone:
* For Deal families, it would alleviate crowding.
* For Hardy families, it would be "Alice Deal for All," in the memorable words of our mayor.
* For out-of-boundary families, it would mean more slots.
So what's the downside?
It makes it more difficult for OOB families. That makes it politically untenable. So, the downside is political unpopularity on a citywide basis.
