Subject: Mothers, do you teach your daughters to marry providers?
I teach my daughter that a woman has to make her own money. Providers can die, run off, become addicts, determine they are gay, etc. Then what?

One thing that I love about my husband is that he is a good provider. Our families needs and wants are met. I like that I do not have to work, although I do because I want to. I do not have daughters, all boys, but we are teaching them to be providers for themselves and later on, their family. That means choosing a good career, and able to manage money.

No. Never have. I have a teen DD and that topic never came up. She did talk about cute boy, and how she wouldn't date this pothead or how good looking and nice this kid is, or how this kid is good looking but not nice, but what does that mean teach them to marry money? Isn't that like telling her she is incapable of making money?

Absolutely. Women still bear the children and do the vast majority of household chores.
Many young men seem to want a porn star, therapist, maid, full time nanny and a supplemental source of income, all rolled into one.
Raising children and keeping house is a F-T job if done right.

I've told her to pick someone who is kind to her and is not lazy. I also tell her that it's expensive to live like we do, so make sure you get a good education so you can get a good paying job.
Until science can figure out a way for a man to have a baby, it is indeed important that a man can "provide" to some degree. Doesn't have to be uber rich, just enough to live comfortably and not stress all the time about money.
