That SAT puts her around the top 25% for AA students; if she can get her grades up a big she has a decent shot at mid-tier colleges.

DC TAG (tuition assistance grant) program. It also pays for public or private HBCUs at the higher, state school. As for private universities it only applies to ones in the city of DC. Look up for details.

If she wants a MD state school, her gpa/scores would be close to average for Frostburg (small, historically white but now pretty diverse, rural), slightly above average for Morgan state (middle sized, HBCU, urban), and Bowie State (small, HBCU, suburban).

If she wants a local private, she's right in the range for Marymount, and on the low side but still within range for Hood, McDaniel and Shenandoah.

If she wants to look further afield there are some small state schools in PA (e.g. Millersville), VA (e.g. Longwood), WV (e.g. Shepherd) that could be choices. WVA, and Wright State (OH), are two potential choices if she wants the experience of a big state school.

Those are just off the top of my head, there are plenty more schools if you give more information. She will have lots of choices.

Morgan State? It has a better reputation than Coppin.
UDC?
UMES?
Salisbury?
Bowie?

Any chance she can go to Montgomery College? Move to MoCo or something? It's a GREAT stepping stone to the four year colleges here. It's a great community college. There is nothing wrong with community college. Maybe going out of DC to one would give her the opportunity to move out, find cheap housing with roommates or something.

Sounds like CC is just what she needs until her stats are better. Seriously isn't worth taking on debt with stats like that.

Sure, plenty of schools will take a kid with a 2.66.

What does she want to study?

Is she in state in MD?

Does she want to stay close to home or go further away?

Does she like Coppin specifically because it's an HBCU or is she neutral about racial composition?

Does she have preferences in terms of urban/rural or big/small?

What kind of financial resources does she have?

Lots of expensive smaller privates would take her but how would she pay for it?
