Medical issue. Come from a place of concern for his health, worry that he's not his usual kissable self, and get him to the dentist asap.

It's a health issue, and you should always be direct about health issues.

Could be gingivitis or a cavity. He needs to go to a dentist.

Op, this never goes well with my dh either. At best...... I can just be specific ("honey, would you brush your teeth and then we can keep kissing?"), and that still doesn't go over well.

Sneakier thing I do is to just be very diligent with my own mouth. I just hope by doing this that the habits gently remind him.

Even with a clean mouth, he usually has a bad scent. And I'm in the same boat of not knowing eaxscty what to do. He does get defensive and upset.

Just sit him down and tell him, in the gentlest, way possible that you've noticed that over the past few weeks that something has changed in his breath.

It can also be a GI problem if it's still there after he brushes.

Make him a dentist appt. Talk to the dentist ahead of time and get the dentist to address it clinically. The dentist gets paid well enough to be the bad guy.

Same way you tell your wife she's gained weight - just be honest.

Get him a tongue scraper to start with. It scrapes all the residuals and bacteria that gets stuck in the grooves of the tongue (especially at the back of thé throat. If that doesn't help, I'd look for tonsil stones.

DH used to be obese and it was almost always a problem, since losing weight it's doesn't happen as much. I think too much meat and crappy foods is/was the cause.

Be blunt. If it's sudden and constant, he probably has some sort of infection that's going to get worse and could cause permanent damage. Set up a dentist appointment and demand he goes.

Sure, he'll be pissed, but take it from someone who didn't speak up- and had a SO that ended up with rotten and missing teeth.

For the last month or so, DH's breath has been horrible. It will smell bad even right after he brushes his teeth. I am now tensing up and turning my head when he tries to kiss me and I cant help it.

However, he's super defensive about anything I tell him about himself that is not positive and he will act like I'm being bitchy.

Any suggestions on how to get the message across without producing tension would be appreciated.
