I would - - IF - - you were sure that - - ALL - - of your kids - - could take honors/AP classes, almost exclusively. If you have any child in the family who is a weaker student who, then don't.

Hayfield is a fine school and GS means nothing. ESPECIALLY in a Fairfax Co. All things being equal, how do you think Hayfield ranks against 90% of the high schools in the country.

Yeah. Plus, isn't Belvoir still in boundaries for Hayfield? All those officers have kids too...

I don't know about nationally, but a 5 on gs means that it ranks better than 50% of high schools in VA and worse than 50% of high schools in VA. VA has a lot of backwards hick countries. So...

Thank you! Do you/does your DC like it? How are the academics? Peer group? What should a parent know going into it? Sorry if my questions are rude/annoying. I'd really like to hear from someone who's been there.

What HS are you zoned for? Are you satisfied with it?

Do you know this by reputation or first-hand experience?

DS not finding his niche, basically. Also, I'm slightly concerned about bullying after seeing the behavior of Hayfield kids getting off the bus or at the nearby McDonalds.

There is something to be said for learning survival skills and how to get along with different types of people.

My husband went to Edison in the '90's. It was fine. Has gotten better since then.

We're zoned for Hayfield Secondary. Currently sitting at a 5 on Great Schools. We love our elementary, but are becoming increasingly concerned about 7th grade and up. Not just because of the GS rating - little things we've observed from kids coming out of school or around the neighborhood. I'd be interested to hear from parents who have sent their kid(s) to Hayfield or one of the other less-sought-after high schools in Fairfax County. Was your child able to find a good peer group? Are the academics up to snuff? Anything we should be aware of or wary of? Are we crazy to be thinking private? Thanks in advance.
