I'm the PP above. I've been a Kingsbury tutor, and a Lab school tutor. Both are one grad school class, compared to the twelve it takes to be a certified special ed teacher.

On top of that, Kingsbury and Lab both take an enormous cut, more than 50%, so most tutors who gain experience then leave and either go into private practice, or go to work for someone else (e.g. Stixrud) who pays better. So, most Kingsbury and Lab tutors have both less education, and less experience.

Check with your child's school. Most teachers will tutor if asked directly. Do you have a teacher you like?

I am a certified teacher moving to NW DC in June. I'm also bilingual and can tutor Spanish.

Care.com seems to have some teachers on its website offering after school/weekend/summer care. I saw a teacher from Bridges listed. They could probably tutor too.

Does anyone know where we can find a reliable summer tutor that is a teacher? We are offering up to $80/hr. Any places post these? Websites? Community boards?
