Get your heads out of your asses. What about schools with mass shootings, like Va Tech? Do you think there's a stigma there? Come on.
I'm a grad and so is my spouse. We've done very well professionally as have some of my friends from there. I won't say everyone who graduated is a success because of course that cannot be said about any school.
But a stigma? Hell no.
You've fallen down the DCUM rabbit hole.

Only if your last name is Paterno or Sandusky.

I always think about the scandal when I think about Penn State. I wouldn't hold it against a particular grad, but it's not a great association.

Listen to the old This American Life episodes about the drinking culture at Penn State (Happy Valley?). They're insane. I had HS friends who went to Penn State and had a lot of substance abuse issues. I know it can happen anywhere, but...

Honestly I think there may be some residual stigma. Obviously the students had nothing to do with the scandal but the culture of obstinate denial reflected extremely poorly on the school and everybody associated with it. I always figured happy valley was an isolated, insular place and the scandal confirmed this belief.

Too dumb to care.

No.

Everyone knows it is a good enough school, and the kids who go there from out of state were solid but not stellar students in high school. Pretty much like every other state flagship.

Engineering is quite good.

I don't think there is a stigma unless you go out of your way to tell everyone how much you support Joe Paterno. That would be unwise.

The engineering school is strong and the business school has solid placements. That said, I probably wouldn't go there out of state. It's not worth the tuition difference over UMD or Va Tech.

Meh - good engineering school. Who cares.

alum here - don't go. i regret going. it's a terrible school except for those in state (and even then, pitt offers a better experience for the same cost).

23:27 is right. the funny thing is there are barely any 10/10 girls their either. the 'hot' ones are the type to age really poorly.

No. The football scandal was a long time ago and all grad schools and almost all hiring managers realize that a regular student has zero to do with football operations. Sure every once in a while you'll get a dick-ish hiring manager making comments about it but 99% of people realize that the sophomore in business or engineering has no control over the oversight/lack of oversight in the football coaching area.

Not a good look to only have a bachelors from PSU, unless you're a 10/10 beautiful girl who can marry up. It's largely a party school. Only the top 10% will make something of themselves.

Checking as there is some interest from our end.
