Well, it's a stupid question.

I think you're looking at a staff attorney or attorney-advisor position.

Also, it's unlikely that you'll be brought into management if you have no prior government experience, let alone agency experience.

But you are looking for non-litigation positions, so a staff attorney at an agency would seem appropriate. Deputy Director positions are generally promoted from within (at least in my office) and would require more experience than income partner in any event.

Firm experience can be useful in government, but it is not a 1:1 transfer.

+1
And if your background is in litigation, but you want a non-litigating position, your experience isn't going to be so valuable. What's your substantive area of expertise?

You're not getting a government attorney position because: 1.) you've been in law long enough to become partner and nobody has tempted or approached you into joining the feds; and 2.) you don't have a network to know what positions would be commensurate to yours.

It's possible you would come in as a GS-15 attorney advisor at my agency.

What field?

Standard attorney positions. GS 13 or 14(if you're lucky).

Get over yourself. You will get a standard Gs-13 or GS-14 job (GS-15 at DOJ). The government promotes from within and being a junior partner doesn't mean crap.

I was recently promoted to income partner in a biglaw firm, but I'm thinking of applying to fed positions. What kinds of job titles are commensurate with a junior partner title? I don't want to shoot too low or too high. Staff attorney at a prestigious court? Deputy Director? Etc. My background is in litigation, but I'm looking for a non-litigation position.
