Crazy. Why would you go in the summer? It's insanely hot and you have the problem of potential hurricanes. Go in the winter to get away from the cold here!!

Well there is a wind from the east most of the time. Periodically in the summer you get a "tropical wave" come through (and more rarely a tropical storm) but otherwise showers/tstorms tend to pop up and pass through quickly. Yes the water is warmer in the summer. IME the seas tend to be bit rougher and more unpredictable in the winter (unless a wave is coming through). Is there anything else specific you think would be relavent for OP?

It's a great time to go, IMO. It is hot, but find a place near the water and/or on a hill and you may be pleasantly surprised how the ocean breeze cools things off at night. In some ways it can be more comfortable than DC in July. And as another PP said, restaurants and shops will be open. Enjoy! St John is lovely.

We went in June and it was so hot and humid. Never again.

We stayed on St. John last August and had a great time, fewer crowds and weather was fine. Except for the small odds of a hurricane I'd certainly do if again in summer.

I did Cancun in July, and I loved it.

We only go to the Caribbean in summer--so much more affordable. Weather is great. If you can do summer here you'll think you're in paradise there.

Nothing will be closed on St. John. No worries.

I've been to st Bart's and the bvi in July and thought it was lovely in terms of weather. Maybe 5-10 degrees warmer than in the spring in the Caribbean. The only thing is, while you escape the crowds, Quite a few shops and restaurants may also close so check before you go of there was some place you were especially excited about

I know summer is the offseason for that area, and am hoping to avoid the crowds. With that said, will we be miserable in the July heat? We've never been and just want a relaxing peaceful vacation in a beautiful area.

If not St John, any suggestions?
