My 12 year old absolutely loved Parks and Rec, which also had lots of innuendo and jokes poking fun at people for being ignorant, racist, misogynist, xenophobic. She just turned 13 and really enjoys Superstore too. If a kid actually gets the jokes, they know something about these topics.

My 12 year old DD likes it. I think it’s trendy amongst this age for reasons I don’t fully understand. There’s a lot of talk about sex, which you probably wouldn’t even register as an adult, but when you’re sitting right next to your kid, it’s occasionally awkward.

My 11 year old likes it. What she doesn’t like is when I pause and point out subtle and not so subtle sexism, racism, and fat-shaming but I do it anyway. (And I think that all media needs to be critiqued. The office is nice because I have seen it so many times I know exactly what’s coming up and what I think about it).

Hello! I actually just turned 12 a few days ago, and honestly the office is my favourite show. I’ve binged it atleast 3 times and never skipped an episode 🤷🏻‍♀️ The thing is I’m really mature for my age. I already know what sex is so the sexual jokes just go over my head and sometimes are just funny too me 🙌🏻 but let’s me honest, I wouldn’t let my kid watch this show if they where my age. You don’t come across many mature 12 year olds 😂 idk.. tbh it just depends your type of humor and how mature you are.. I don’t think I could stand watching Barbie. I’d litterally rip my eyeballs out of bordem. Funniest show I’ve ever watched!!

My 10 and 12 year olds also like the Office. I've had fun watching it again with them. Sexual innuendo goes over 10 yo head and the 12 yo is mature enough to handle it. (She goes to middle school after all). It is a hilarious show.

My 10 year old is obsessively watching every episode of the Office right now. Honestly, it's not really appropriate, but I just told him not to repeat it at school.

Yes, there's sexual innuendo in both shows, The Office b/c the office manager (Steve Carell's character) is blatantly racist/sexist and it's supposed to be "funny," but not if kids don't understand the humor.

I would personally let an 11 year old watch the Office over the Big Bang Theory. The messages BBT theory promote aren't something I'd want to place in front of a kid that age.

My 10 yo loves Seinfeld. Of course we don't let her watch every episode, as some of them are quite inappropriate.

Hilarious show but I wouldn't want a preteen exposed to that much sexual humor.

My son watched these shows with his grandmother at that age, but I would not have felt comfortable letting him watch it with so much sex talk.

My 11yo likes it too. She also likes Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. It felt weird when she started liking grown up shows instead of my little pony. She knows enough to understand when they're talking about sex, and usually rolls her eyes. If an episode is very sex-centric, she might wander off or read a book and only half watch it. There's so much good humor in the shows that she can appreciate, so she tolerates the innuendo and sexual references to be able to enjoy the show as a whole.

There is a lot of sex and body talk and a ton of innuendo. I'm surprised an 11 year old would like all the office work talk humor. I find it funny, but have been working a long time. I wouldn't be thrilled for my 11 yo to watch it at a friend's house for the 1st time, but wouldn't lose my mind about it, more meh. Common sense media is conservative IMO, so I usually strike a a balance between the parents view and kids view vs. common sense media's view.

yes. its fine. they do talk about sex. they are really obnoxious. it is fine.

DD said she watched it at a friend's house and loved it. I'm a bit puzzled, bc it's not the kind of show she typically likes, but that's not really my question. Question is, do you think it's appropriate to watch for an 11 year old? I've seen two or three episodes and remembering liking it, so I'd like to sit down and watch the series in chronological order with her, but since I haven't seen much of it I forget how "adult" it is?
