Why don't you mosey on over to the special needs board and tell all those moms and dads that you resent spending on their kids?

No, she's concerned Loudoun is spending more on general ed than FCPS.

They did an analysis on the AAP bussing and said they wouldn't save anything from it. So it's not being cut since there's no additional expense. AAP classes are generally larger than general ed classes. The only gifted education that is more expensive is level 2 and 3 education with the gifted teacher. I wish people would stop spreading misinformation about this.

It is not about "gifted" kids. AAP firs time cost much extra money. Just the busing costs.

OP, how is this news to you? FCPS has been dealing with budget issues for years.

That's been a problem for a long time. FCPS not only has to meet the needs of all the spec ed and esol kids, but it also decides to spend money on all the *gifted* kids and the language immersion kids. That leaves nothing for the regular kid.

Isnt Loudoun spending a lot on building new schools, building infrastructure, etc., because the system is so new and growing? I would imagine this would skew the numbers...

Ha! How do you think public school funding works? It isn't that they divide a pot of money equally amongst all students. If your kid is "regular" as in a well behaved, on or above grade level kid with no needs, any school district is not spending much on your kid. All school distorts are spending g a ton of money on kids with high needs- special education students (some kids need up to 75,000 per year spent for each student for them to make progress-residential school, one to one aide, bussing, nursing services, speech therapy, etc.); ESL students; students with behavior problems, etc. This is why some schools like Catholic schools can educate students for less than public schools- they don't take any high needs kids.
