What are travel caps? Are you saying you put the white lid thing on the bottle and then a nipple? I use the white lids for transporting it from work (where I pump straight into the bottle) to home, but from home to daycare I just use a nipple.

When my twins were little we had them on specialty formula. I would bring the premixed formula to daycare in Dr. brown's bottles in a lunch cooler with the travel caps. Before I put them in the daycare fridge I would take the travel caps off and leave them in the cooler (which I took back to the car). You might try that. If you take the travel caps off yourself at drop off, you might not have this problem anymore. Bring them back at pick up and if there are any unused bottles left, you can put them back on. At the end of the day there will probably be at most one lelft over.

OP here. I decided to call and talk to the teachers. She said she even called the Dr. Brown's customer service. We problem solved and they are going to leave the bottles in the warmer a shorter time period or just run under warm water. She said the new teacher fully admitted that she didn't know about the interior lid/cap (It's a plastic circle) that goes over the interior under the nipple. I hope this solves the issue. If I were a first time mom I would lose it!

yes, the interior lid. Milk is leaking such that it is not usable. We are talking 4 ounces of milk!

Removing the interior lid? We have a Dr Brown bottle warmer at home. It works perfectly with every other brand of bottle we use except Dr Brown's own wide neck bottle. Milk would spill into the warmer and the water would become murky. I have no idea how this could happen but it does. Is this what you are referring to as "exploding", OP? And it is preventable by removing the interior lid??

My mother did this several times with my nephew's bottles when she was watching him. She was leaving the bottles in the bottle warmer way too freaking long because she'd regularly not be ready to give him the bottle yet or would get distracted. She'd overheat them so they'd be cooled down to the "right" temp by the time she was ready to feed them. She'd not only waste breastmilk but destroyed a whole bunch of bottles. Not good.

The milk is leaking. It looks like they are being inattentive while warming up bottles in the warmer. I get it. They have 7 kids to watch. However, I think one of the teachers hasn't been removing the internal caps on Dr. Brown's bottles that prevent leaks when traveling/in a refrigerated tote. I have four ounces and there is plenty of room. It is below the fill line.

Would bigger bottles help? I'm a little confused as to what exactly is exploding here. The plastic bottle? The top? The milk is leaking? I don't get it.

Never any exploding bottles during three years of bringing bottles to a daycare center. Frankly, I've never even heard of such a thing.

OP here. Yes, I think I am going to talk to the lead teacher for the infants. I don't want to get the teachers in trouble but in the 2 years I had a nanny for my older child, she maybe once spilled milk. Unacceptable.

I would definitely say something to the administration. I've never heard of exploding breast milk!!! I think this must be a safety issue. If it's hot enough to explode, it would surely burn a baby. This is ridiculous.

I bring 4 4 ounces bottles to DS's daycare. I was bringing 5 in case of an emergency. I have over 20 ounces of frozen breastmilk I keep in the freezer. We are only allowed to keep milk for one month of the date in the refrigerator. Today teacher calls because she has exploded a bottle and yesterday I took home the extra milk to rotate it out with new frozen milk. This morning I asked DH if we should bring frozen milk and he said to wait until Monday as they rarely use the frozen milk (maybe 1-2 x).

Lately DS' teachers have "exploded" breast milk. In one instance, I did fill the bottle to 5 ounces and it was close to the "do not fill line". In the other three cases, they have wasted 4 ounces of breastmilk by overheating it and "exploding" breastmilk in the bottle warmers.

I suggested they either just run it over warm water or unscrew the lid to let out air and then screw it back on. We walk to school and I walk and metro from my office to school and home so I do screw the lids on tight. I prepare the bottles at night before bedtime so they are ready for the next day to take to school. They are new Dr. Brown's wide bottles, 4 ounces and I have a 5 month old.

I don't use bottles at home unless I go out, which I rarely do. DH and our sitters just run the bottles they use with DS under hot water to warm it. These are experienced teachers but they are not mothers. I'm starting to get frustrated.

Should I say something to the administration or just suggest the teachers be more careful and tell them to just run DS' bottles under warm water or let out excess air before warming? Now I have to leave work early to breastfeed or get my son and I don't have any leave left as I work for the federal government and didn't get maternity leave. I had to exhaust my leave. Le sigh.
