I need endless amount of kids who have been subjected to Kumon, 7 days a week, every single year of life since they were 5. Then they spent a TON of money on all kind of Asian test prep centers. At the end, it did not get them to gifted program. It is possible that this helped them to be good students they were but good or even great student is not what is exceptionally gifted and talented.
If someone will open a center that will guarantee to turn your kid into a gifted and talented if a child is not assessed as one
prior to entering it then they will be considered candidates for a Noble prize.
I think that is pretty much alchemist tried to do through the ages?.. Turn just any matter into gold?
If you start with gold you can end with gold but if you start with silver, you will end up with silver
no matter how much work you put into it.

Interesting - which HGCs are these? Did they also get any prep for the essay portion (I understand it is less likely as their focus is anyways on language arts)

OP, do a search on Amazon for gifted prep tests. You'll get some good options.

I figure that even if they are not exactly what my kid will find on the Magnet Test then at least it's good practice. She seems to enjoy the challenge and it's a better way to keep your skills up in the summer (versus some of the inane/boring math packets that the school sends home).

Your child needs to want it for themselves. They can study extra, check out books at their school library, or even ask you to purchase a book to help them. But that is not how this area usually works. The parents are over involved and force and push kids into classes and levels beyond their true abilities. They are the kids that spend hours and hours taking test prep courses, weekly tutors, taking 3-5 hours a night in homework, etc.... Kids that have to work and get pushed that hard aren't going to go off to college and just all of a sudden not need all of that.

Parents are just way too involved in getting their kids into these programs. They do all the planning and work. Dictate the kids lives. It is sad.

A true tiger mom would find a statistical analysis of what prep works instead of asking here. Weak!

Yes.

I took several AP classes in HS and there were workbooks for them. I took an SAT prep class and did workbooks for my grad school exams.

Not the OP, but of course I would help him if he asked for workbooks to get into grad school. By that time, he's going to be on his own though. He'll have to figure out what he needs/wants. But I'll still be willing to help.

Prep is always good.

We got books from The Critical Thinking Co Website that were helpful. A little pricy but cheaper than Spider Smart or some other prep class.

No workbook recommendations. For TPMS, your son should focus on doing the quantitative comparisons very quickly and accurately.

DS is currently in 4th grade at Forest Knolls Elementary and is in the advanced math and reading groups. Since I think the amount of homework given is on the low side, I have him do 1 page per night in each of the three works that I got for him on Amazon: a math workbook, a writing workbook, and a science workbook. He has a strong interest in math and science, so I really want him to get into TPMS magnet program come 6th grade. I know testing is not until the fall/winter but I am wondering if I can start preparing him over the summer? Does anyone have kids that have been accepted into TPMS magnet program that used workbooks or any other kind of test preparation? I know that the test is made up of quantitative comparison, reading comprehension, and spatial reasoning so I am trying to find workbooks that focus specifically on these types of questions. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this topic!
