I googled her; there were two NMSF and 5 commended scholars at her school. She was not one of them.

My personal opinion is to do away with affirmative action, and instead of working through our education system, develop targeted and conditional job offers to communities with poverty and crime issues. Affirmative action tries to right a wrong with another wrong but is unfair to other students in the process. Populations selected through affirmative action then have the legitimacy of their achievements disputed. It's not working.

Obama should have known and addressed this. Oh well i guess he did not fix the race issues as expected. What do you expect from a man who had ancesters who owned slaves.

That is a known fact, PP.
It has everything to do with education and socio-economic status. The Africans accepted into good universities don't usually come from generational poverty and a defeated mindset. There have been excellent studies done on the relation between resilience, cognitive skills and the stress of generational poverty and insecurity in the US. As you can easily imagine, they are closely linked, because at some point, people get beaten down by constantly having to struggle.

This happens far to often to be merit based. Universities and employers value the work ethic of the immigrants from Africa and their kids over AA. Obvious. Not justifying.

Has anyone noticed that African Americans (decendents of slaves) are being over looked for Africans and hispanics? Perhaps just my perception. However, AA deserve the attention in the academic world and job market as well as other areas. They were here early on, discriminated against - yet still helped build and defend our country.
