OP here - this is all GREAT information! Thanks so much to all of you for your responses.
The team my son is on now is having some difficulties. He went from having an AMAZING and very experienced coach with great credentials (had this coach for several years) to a coach who is in his first year of coaching something other than house level and has the lowest license you can have for coaching. He's a very nice guy, but just inexperienced. The teams roster is only 13 and we have a hard time getting enough players to the games.
My son truly loves the sport. He doesn't care about winning all the time, but it does upset him if he feels like the team is not committed or is not playing as well as they could.
I just want to try to make sure that the team he's going to has decent players and the coach and team are somewhat experienced and committed to the sport (show up to practice and games), has a decent sized roster, etc. I think my son would be unhappy on a team that was all about winning, incidentally. He'd be happy on a team that was committed to development and improving/growing as both individual players and as a team.
He's a current U-14, FYI. I feel like I shouldn't say which team he's been accepted to, though maybe that's silly. But still, I feel like I've already said too much
