There's historic Williamsburg, which kids of pretty much any age would like. There are rides for the younger set at the amusement park part and the water park has a ton of pools.
Heads-up that the traffic to Williamsburg can be awful.

You could always do Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Or even New York. Primland (primland.com) is really nice. As are the houses around Homestead (naturalretreats.com/us). We always opt for houses or suites when we travel as a foursome.

Go to Annapolis.
The Maritime Museum is small, kid friendly, and some good hands on visual exhibits:

Then take a pirate ship ride. You can sit in the shade with the baby at the back of the boat. He/she will probably sleep most of the time.
Downtown Annapolis is very walkable. Good restaurants, ice cream shops. Lots of historical sites that would be interesting to a young child and adults, like the gardens at the William Paca House or the Naval Academy: http://www.downtownannapolis.org/_pages/exploring/walking_tour.htm

Subject: easy, short local summer getaway
We are looking for recommendations for a quick summer getaway in early summer for a family of four: our kids are 4 and an infant. A short drive (under 4 hours) from the DC area is preferable--we will only be staying maybe 2-3 nights, so an 8 hour drive is too long for the overall length of our trip.
Places we have been and like: we have been to the Delaware beaches many, many times. We have been to the Cambridge Hyatt several times. Lancaster PA was fun. On our list so far: the Homestead, maybe Williamsburg. Any other nearby destinations that I have overlooked?
