2nd grade in Montgomery Knolls ES (K-2) school. It was something extra the students had for over a decade . This year it is being taught as an afterschool program as the afterschool person did not want to do recorders.

No charge for recorders at Kemp Mill ES. They got them after winter break in 3rd grade. No issues with finger size, and they had a concert playing with all holes covered and at least 20 kids did fine. A recorder is fine as a first instrument - cheap, easy to carry, no moving parts, difficult to break, easy to tune, and very little you can do wrong.

Oh on the contrary, apparently the Bethesda kids must have small fingers and low skills.
Our Elementary school kids gave an amazing performance, worth of Kennedy Center.
It was just amazing. 6 classes! together. We have amazing teacher though.

Third grade, and I believe they were always between $7-$10 (three kids who went to an MCPS elementary school).

We have to send in money for them in third grade. No issues with finger size..

Our order form had an option to buy an extra for the class which I thought was nice.
