I'm the pp who pretty much had two natural mcs. The 6 week one is a really heavy period for 2 days. Bad cramps and on and off spotting for another week. The 10 week one was really really painful. Moan and welp painful for 4 hrs in the middle of the night for me with thick clots. And when I passed the actual tissue it was about an hour is serious but not nearly as bad pain. And low grade cramps for 3 days before that. I think at that stage your cervix has to dialate a lot to pass it all and that's what hurts. Childbirth hurts more but this was worse than the worst period I've ever had and I want sure when it would end. I've had very painful periods most of my life).

Found out around 7 weeks. Had taken forever to get pregnant, and my OB told me that there was a risk (however small) of scaring with the D&C, and it could potentially affect future fertility which was obviously already bad.

I was not willing to take that risk.

So, I waited for nature to take it's course. It took another 3 weeks. It wasn't horrible, and I had pain meds on hand to help. I was up all one night, slept that next day and was able to go out to dinner that night.

I'm sorry OP, there are no good choices.

Was told to do D&C for miscarriage at 11 weeks because I'd have a very hard time passing it on my own. At 8.5 weeks, was told I could choose but that there's a chance I'd have difficulty passing it and would end up doing the D&C anyway.

With D&C I was able to test the fetus for chromosomal abnormalities and this was incredibly valuable information. I was also very glad to just know when it was going to happen, plan for it, and have it be over with. It was easy, quick, painless and less messy.

Not when all goes as planned, which it does 99.9 percent of the time. But like all surgery, it can have complications, and your doctor will discuss this with you.

I did a D&C for mmc at 8 weeks. Was eager to stop having morning sickness for no reason and to get my period back to conceive again, which fortunately I did. I would do the d&c again. Painless and easy. Some tenderness and mild cramps for a couple weeks off and on but not too bad afterwards.

I've done all 3. The D&C was at 11 weeks and it was easy. I preferred the misoprotol since it was quick. I waited way too long for nature to take her course and when it finally happened, the pain was excruciating and so much blood.

D&C both times. I like it over with.

Same here. MMC at 9 weeks.

I had a D&C for a 10 week mc. But I actually passed 90% of it on my own the night before the surgery. It was very very painful cramps and thick blood for several hours overnight that I spend in the bathroom. I was well enough to go to work. And that's where the rest happened and I saw "it" come out. Horrifying. I won't describe it to you but it was obvious what it was.

I did misoprostol (cytotec) for a blighted ovum at 10 weeks. They gave me a script for percocet but I didn't take it, just tylenol. It was painful but bearable. I'd had a natural miscarriage prior and it was similar to that. Neither remotely compared to the pain of childbirth (did one of those too) but were much more painful than period cramping.

If you want to test the products of conception, I might go with a D&C if you're squeamish. I personally cannot imagine having to fish out the product from the toilet and bring it in. In my case we weren't doing that so I opted for at-home method and it was fine.

I had two missed miscarriages and elected D&Cs. With the mmc, nature clearly hadn't figured it out in 3+weeks, so didn't feel like waiting longer was useful. With the second, I wanted to test the products of conception, which is best done with a D&C. With the first I didn't like the uncertainty of timing-- when would the miscarriage start, how long would it last? We only have one bathroom, is that going to be a problem, etc.

My chemical pregnancy was one of the more painful periods I have had, not sure I personally would do miso.

I will say I preferred the non-sedated office D&C to the hospital surgery d&c. less expensive, not in the maternity ward, and i feel like I recovered faster.

I'm not sure where to post this question.. if you has a miscarriage, did you do a D&C or use misoprostol? I have a miscarriage between 7 and 8 weeks and my OB told me that my options are 1) let nature takes its course; 2) take the pill; and 3) D&C. I told him I'll mull over it, and we will decide on Monday.
