Agree with this completely. Get one of those Ikea beds with built in storage to store winter bedding: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S69902945/

Install an Elfa closet system to maximize your existing closets.

This should be more than enough to store your winter bedding and holiday decorations.

I really don't like that picture and wouldn't want to buy a house that had that. It's not going to be easy/accessible storage if you have to go up and down a ladder. I'm really wondering what you plan to store and how worth it the cost of building this would be.

I wouldn't do it. Vaulted ceilings are nice and a selling point.

If I were you, I would get rid of crap first. Then install a California closet and organize the remaining crap. Finally, I would put a shed in the yard and use waterproof bins.

We have a tiny townhouse and need storage. It has 90s vaulted ceiling on the 3rd floor stair. We were thinking of converting that space into a small loft (150 square ft, short maybe 5 feet st center roofline, more like converted attic).

It will probably make the bedroom hallway a little more cramped, and doesn't really serve as more useful square footage, but definitely Storage and maybe kids reading nook.

This would be for our consumption, but how much would it hurt resale?
