You have never had rats most likely because your neighbor has a cat that keeps the rodents at bay.

No, I live out west where outdoor cats get eaten with nice regularity. They don't exist here unless they are feral.

If someone was smearing peanut butter on your front porch and your child was allergic you'd be okay with it? Maybe I'm just different but my kid/health/property come first over any outdoor "pet". Every time.

Can you put the cushions away when you aren't using them? We have a container on our deck and we just take them out when we need them. Helps them stay clean/dry as well.

Make the cushions unpleasant to sit on. Propping them is probably the easiest solution though.

Also, keep a spray bottle inside and when you see the cats, give it a squirt with water. Some cats will not care at ALL though.

Lean the furniture over so that they can't sit on it. And then set them upright when you want to use them.

I'm very allergic to cats and I'm making sure my kids are around cats from an early age so they don't develop the same allergy.

Rogue cats? I believe cats have been around a lot longer than humans.

Not on my porch. It's not my cat, it is my property, and I don't want it there. Period. I'd treat it like a squirrel or other rodent, as it's own owners are doing the same.

Agree. Anything outdoors is fair game to cats.

Dogs.

Sprinkler system that senses motion and goes off when the cats approach. But, they are smart, they will jump on the railings. May want to hand something unpleasant there.

I bought patio furniture (two chairs and a love seat with cushions) and put them on my porch a month ago. The chairs are now covered in cat hair. I came home last night around 9pm and a cat was curled up on one of the chairs. I shooed him away but he probably came back. How do I or prevent or deter outdoor cats from my porch? My husband and one child are allergic to cats.
