This homes are great for couples who never want to see each other. I would like a house that large if I was married to an a*hole lol:
To me 2100 sq f is plenty, but I am by myself plus two dogs, one is giant and invisible, just sleeps all day, another one is min poodle and always keeps me company.
When I was looking for a house, I discovered that there are plenty of large houses, and very limited number of small ones that don't look like boxes put together in a hurry.

This is probably a normal breakdown of what you find in the house:

2 Parents, at least one of whom is always on a work trip
1 full-time nanny
3 children
Various visitors for work or related to work

I agree. We have 7200 feet with three elementary school aged kids and a dog. One working parent one SAH parent. Most of our friends are the same.

We are not quite that big (7200 sq feet). 6 kids, much of our sq footage is in bedrooms (we have 9). I also wonder how many people are living in some of these homes. It is a lot to clean, but we do use almost all of the space.

Its all relative. I grew up in NYC and even the rich kids in Manhattan lived in 2000 sq ft….which felt huge to me bc I lived with 4 other people (happily) in 1000 sq ft. My one sister moved out to Ohio. You can get a really nice 3700 sq foot house for 350k so why wouldn't you have a big house? Im assuming you can get a 8000 sq ft house for under 700k!

It's definitely not for the normal families of 2 working parents and 2-3 kids with a pet or two.

I would never buy a house larger than 3,000 square feet. I can't even begin to imagine how you'd fill it up. We are in 1,500 sf with four people and a cat and it's fine.

growing up in the west coast, I have to admit I never seen so many 6000-8000 sqft house before I moved to mclean

so I wonder do those families really have like 5 kids or live with 3 generations in those 8000 sqft mansion?
