Check out https://www.photofeeler.com/

You can upload various photos and see what real people think of them.

I did this with my professional head shot and realized that the photo I liked best wasn't communicating what I wanted it to communicate. My least favorite was the one that got the best response.

Get a pro to take your picture. Not a glamour shot though.

+1 You want a professional "headshot." Everyone has a good angle.

Okay, this is not too hard. You will be fine.

First, find someone to a shoot it--student photographer or someone starting out who does portraits, weddings, etc. Craiglist is a good place. If all you need are a few images, you can pay around 75.00 for a one hour session with editing.

what you want: not glamour shots. Basically, a good set up (outdoors or with natural light indoors), decent make up lighting, a little post editing and a good smile. The point is to look like YOU not like someone else, but appealing enough that someone will click. Bright, happy, fun.

also, you can go to sephora or somewhere like that on the day of and have them do a make-over--nothing major, but good for shooting photos. You should buy some of the make up too of course.

Get photoshopped to an honest representation of how you look in real life.

This is silly, OP. I met my DH via online dating and neither he nor I are beauties. Another couple we are friends with met and they are ordinary people too.

Just use a shot of your cleavage. That will get you plenty of attention.

While I'm not on dating sites right now, I use a free app on my phone to make myself look better. I think it's called YouCam. You can add makeup, shape your brows, slim you face, etc. Also, I used a Groupon to get a photo done at Penney's for $29. Not great, but way better than a selfie.

That's silly. Not everyone has the same cookie-cutter standards of beauty.

Do NOT take a cell phone photo of your face. Cell phones are very wide angle and close ups of a face are very distorted in a most unflattering way. We are seeing a whole generation of shitty photos on dating sites now because of cell phone cameras. The head appears narrow, the nose much bigger and the forehead bigger while it does nothing to flatter the eyes. Get someone with a real camera to take your photo from a good ten feet back, zoomed in on your face for a face shot, with good lighting and flash added with red-eye feature turned on.

Hire a stylist to give you ideas on hair and make-up. If you are a 6 they can make you an 8 and help you get the right photo.

Get a friend to take your photo. No selfies, no webcams, no professional shots, and no making faces.
