My main point is that the word dark is used all the time in contexts that are not racist. The word Mick is not. There are definitely words that are used primarily as slurs to describe other cultures I would put in this category. Dark isn't one since it has so many non offensive uses in language

Yes, OP, The Mick is a racist title but don't forget in our current social climate racism, abuse, bigotry and discrimination against white people and cultures doesn't count.

Well dark angel is not a known racial slur, so no. And dark, when used as a slur and not it's myriad of other meanings (unlike Mick which is just a name or a slur) is used to insult black people so no I don't think that counts.

So other people with dark skin don't get insulted for it, only black people? That will be surprising to a lot of people, including Jessica Alba, who lost out on roles early in her career for being "too" dark.

I understand that. But that is VERY clearly an Irish name. And 'mick' is a well known Irish slur. I am not even comfortable trying to come up with a comparable thing with another ethnicity.

It would be like...if there was a show called 'The Spick' and it was about Jose Spikulamos or something. You COULD see the nickname thing, but...you can't NOT see the slur.

Around the same time putting green food coloring in a toilet bowl became an acceptable way to celebrate the national holiday of Ireland.

Listen I'm a white lefty liberal born into an UMC lifestyle and able to have maintained it into adulthood so I'm fully aware of my own white privilege and I realize I don't have much to complain about in the world.

But I have dish network so it records all prime time shows and every time I see the name of this show I'm like WTF. That is a racial slur for Irish people. How on earth did it become a real show on prime time?
