Is it okay? I always tell the cashier to take a banana off the bunch and weigh it again to pay for the one consumed. They do about half the time.

I don't know why but this irritates the bejesus out of me. No reflection on people who do it, it just bugs the heck out of me. I think my father does it on purpose, drinks a soda, anytime I take him to the grocery store just because he knows I hate it. LOL.

I shoved it in the lining of my book bag. When the alarm went off the librarian searched my bag and chalked it up to one of my school book setting it off. Once I got outside I started crying and cried riding my bike all the way home. Once home I was terrified the cops would come get me so I hid the book in my closet. Eventually forgot about it and years later when moving out found it and cracked up about it.
I had never stolen anything and haven't since. I have never even paid a fine for late books! I'm not a deviant I swear I just got it in my head to steal that book.
Never told anyone, this was oddly cathartic, thanks OP!
You can return the book now (or donate to any library). They won't ask questions; they'll just be happy to get it back.
