The storm that gave DC an inch BURIED ny state and Vermont.

You're willing to spend 10 hrs in the car driving, but won't consider a 3.5hr flight to, for example, CO or SLC? Do you have any airline miles to use if the flights are too expensive?
(actually, flying anywhere over spring break will be pricey).

But, if you are seriously set on going and making this worthwhile skiing, I would def reconsider flying out West. You don't need to go as far as Tahoe, but something like Park City would be managable especially since your kids are older.

Are you going this weekend? Greek Peak says it closes the first Saturday in April (so April 1?). I'd be surprised if Camelback stays open after that too, but maybe they will.

I've been to both areas, although not in the last few years, and they are both fine. They've both invested a lot in off mountain activities and push the social events. I can't speak to the specific hotels you are looking at. Have you tried Trip Advisor?

I think New England got a lot of late season snow so may be better skiing than some years.

I'm doing it too. Only difference is one kid instead of two.

Vermont is awesome and there will be plenty of decent snow left.

That said, in all honesty I think you are being overly ambitious/optimistic, especially if you don't want to fly somewhere. You really want to book lodging, put 2 kids in the car, drive 9-10 hours all by yourself, each way, in the hopes that maybe MAYBE there will be decent skiing when you get there?

I don't recall the drive to jay having any scary sections, but it's been a while. Do they still have that big indoor water park?

It's possible that many resorts will have green and blue open in a few weeks, even in southern Vermont. I'd wait another week, if the lodging you want isn't getting close to sold out.

Killington does stay open later than anyone.

Sunday river may have more snow than anyone in vt. But I'm not sure. And it's far.

Try Killington. They tend to have good snowmaking and are open later in the season, although go with low expectations. There is a decent hotel at the base - Grand Hotel maybe? but there is no village to speak of. Everything is spread along the Killington access road. If you want a luxury hotel stay at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, VT and drive to the mountain every day (that's what we do). Woodstock is a cute Vermont town.

Stratton is nice and is in Southern VT so a shorter drive. But not sure what they might have open in mid April - probably not much.

Not sure what being a petite woman has to do with anything? Vermont is not particularly dangerous.

My kid's spring break is April 10-14. We've been busy this winter and only got in one weekend of skiing. With the major snow storm that came through, I figured some resorts on the east coast might be open late. I'd prefer a shorter drive, but if needed I'm willing drive up to 10 hours. Stowe said only the black terrain may be open, which is unfortunate because we stick to green/blue slopes. Jay Peak said most of their slopes would be open. I've never driven up to Vermont and I don't like heights. I would like to know if anyone has done this drive to Jay Peak, is it very mountainous? Is there anyplace closer that I should consider that would be open mid-April and is kid friendly resort w/ pool? I thought about Jack Frost in PA, but I heard the resort is a bit rundown and we plan to stay onsite. If possible, I also would prefer ski-in/ski-out room. I am petite women doing this trip myself with 2 kids age 9 & 10, so I would prefer kid friendly resort.

Please don't bother suggesting I fly out west. I am set on driving and I don't want to rent gear. Last time we rented my son got a nasty foot fungus from the rented snowboard boots.
