FLE is optional. No reason to worry about it. If you don't want your child to listen to it, don't send them those days or opt out.

I did worry but now we have moved DC to a school outside of the DMV bubble mentality. History is back in the day where DC is not learning to hate America and every other lecture is not about man vs woman. It has been a refreshing change.

When my now-middle schooler started elementary I saw that the family life curriculum included teaching that sex should be reserved for marriage. That bothered me for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that same sex marriage was not legal at the time, so the implicit message was that no homosexuals should be having sex. It is not the place of the schools to be taking a stance on who and should not be having sex.

My kids are toddlers/babies. This was more a general comment based on what I've heard from friends. Good to hear that FCPS is thorough! I'm not sure we'll still be living here then, though.

Fortunately, my kid is in FCPS, so I know they will be taught at the appropriate scientific level. I am terrified that someone will think it is ok to start teaching non-scientific items as science. Religious teaching has no role in science class. My child shall be taught evolution; that global warming is real; etc.

No, I don't really worry. I think being exposed to different views is part of life and I share my views and values at home and take it as a teaching / learning moment when they're exposed to other viewpoints.

I tell my kids to trust, but verify. No one should go through school with blinders on. Ask questions.

In a diverse society, many people are going to find things they don't like in the curriculum. I am concerned that the history taught to my kids is often inaccurate and racist (I'm a historian). I try to support the school by providing good resources, and I also work with my kids at home.
