Hi all, sorry we're chiming in late, we just got the link fwd'd and were pretty excited to see the planning blog linked!
To the original poster who's new to Ward 4, welcome! Our team is supporting the phased opening of MacFarland, which started with a 6th grade Dual Language Program this year in August 2016 and will begin taking middle grades students from Truesdell, West, and Raymond Education Campuses in School Year 2018-2019. MacFarland's building modernization starts this summer and will be complete in summer 2018.

The brand new Middle School will be for LaSalle-Backus, Whittier, Brightwood, and Takoma and will share space with a renovated Coolidge High School.

There is (maybe was) a MacFarland community cabinet with parents from West, Truesdell, Powell, and the rest who might be able to tell you more. What is your feeder school?

Not quite. A new middle school will open on the Coolidge campus in Fall 2019, serving the current middle school grades at LaSalle-Backus, Whittier, Brightwood, and Takoma.

New mom in Ward 4. I have heard rumors about plans to convert West and Trusdell to elementary only and have a new MS, but I can't find anything about it from DCPS. Is there a formal proposal/plan I can review?
