Anyone ever buy trip insurance for a cruise?

For overseas, expensive and non-refundable, when pregnant (check exclusions on options), when traveling with little ones, hurricane-prone areas during hurricane season, yes. It's always been pretty cheap,between $50- $100 pp. Often kids are free. Insuremytrip is a good recommendation, but I always end up with Travel Guard. Have never had to use it.

Never. A vacation isn't the kind of thing I need insurance for. And my medical insurance covers me abroad.

We got it for our upcoming flight to Europe. For us, the flight's a lot of money. $70 cost to insure the tickets seemed reasonable.

Just purchased for a trip to Europe in the fall. Hopefully nothing goes wrong, but when you're shelling out five grand plus for ten days, not worth it to take the chance.

Also purchased it for a group house in OBX during hurricane season.

We've gotten it for beach rentals during hurricane season. Never had to use it. The rental agency offered the policy.

We purchased it last year with our airfare for going on a 2-week vacation. We had previously nearly needed it due to a sick family member (who died 1 month before our vacation) and I didn't want to take any unexpected family crises to burden us on airfare. I didn't purchase for any of our hotel, car rental, etc.

I've also gotten it when I am booking an expensive or complicated trip, traveling where I'm unconvinced of their medical care, or if any portion is non-refundable. I've only once needed to use it (husband got extremely sick the night before we were due to fly for a 4 day trip. We had purchased an online deal for a hotel that was non-refundable). With a submitted doctor note, we got a full refund of the hotel costs (pre-paid) as well as reimbursement for all the airline change fees. It was incredibly easy, I just submitted a form and the receipts through their website and had a check mailed to me within a week. That was with Allianz.

I have done it once in a while-- like when we rented a house in OBX during hurricane season (was pretty cheap to get coverage if there was a threat of hurricance, although you have to compare policies to see what each one requires).

Mostly now I rely on my credit card's insurance and my BC/BS coverage (although to be honest, when I have needed medical care in other countries it has not been expensive).

Insuremytrip is great for comparing/purchasing trip insurance-- it will pretty much always be cheaper than getting it through your travel provider. The "trip insurance store" is a good place to buy if you want to talk to someone before buying.

I have added it on Expedia a few times, although that's mostly for flight/car. Have used it once when I had to change a flight for work and it actually covered the change fee and the fare change. Most of my personal international travel is on free tickets so not much to insure since they are already changeable (just had to do one at the last minute and it was only $75 to change).

Check your credit card policy. Dh's Visa has some travel insurance coverage if he uses it to pay for airline tix, lodging, etc. We used it to book obx house (keeping in mind it doesn't cover mandatory evacuation due to a hurricane).

I always, always buy medical insurance if I am traveling overseas. (Never had to use it, knock on wood).

I have looked into cancellation coverage and it is very expensive. We also have some protections if we buy the trip with our cc (e.g. car rental purchased via Amex have some insurance included).

I usually get trip insurance when traveling abroad. I've never had to use it, but I have a friend whose grandfather became quite ill in Spain, and the trip insurance covered all of his medical bills, as well as an air ambulance back to the U.S.

Pp here again. Costwise, when I checked it looked like mostly a few hundred dollars, but the cost depends on what level of coverage you want. I knew I did not want to get insurance through the cruise line because it's more money. I ended up going through USAA because it had good reviews but not everyone is eligible for USAA services so probably not helpful...

I just did for a European cruise. More than the potential of losing the cost of the trip, I wanted the medical coverage.
There are tons of reviews online and most people recommend comparing with a site like insuremytrip. There are plenty of people who have stories of needing to use it on forums (I was looking at cruisecritic forums)...

If so, please tell me the trip cost and how much the trip insurance was.

Also, have you ever had to actually use the trip insurance, for like an emergency or cancellation, and if so was it a hassle to get your trip money back?
