I usually don't like celebrity memoirs, but here are two that were fantastic on audio:

Bossypants, by Tina Fey

(Laughed so hard at one point, I started crying. Awkard b/c I was solo in the car and stopped at a red light. Guy next to me may have thought I was losing my mind.)

Stories I Only Tell My Friends, by Rob Lowe

(Self-serving at times, but completely interesting and thought-provoking. He's a bright guy with a lot of interesting stories to tell.)

On a related note, I did not enjoy Amy Poeler's book as much. Not as interesting or laugh-out-loud funny, and I found it irritating to listen to her complain about how difficult it is to write a book. (If it's so hard, stop whining and do something else.) Same with Mindy Kaling's book. Both authors struck me as too insecure and immature to be interesting. YMMV.

OP here. Thank you for saying this. I started reading it and thought it was tedious but everybody else seems to love it. I'll try it as an audiobook!

Thank you everybody for all these great suggestions and for the link to the other thread. I have a great list! Keep them coming!

Miranda July's The First Bad Man is so great with July reading it. Tons of dialogue that she gives the characters great voices for, including the dumb characters.

Spooner by Pete Dexter seemed dry every time I attempted to read it, but Tom Stetschulte brings out the humor on every page.

I would never read the books of the Karl Ove Knaussgaard My Struggle series, but I've enjoyed them all so far as audiobooks.

I am looking for new audiobook recommendations. There are some books I think work better as audiobooks. As a recent example, I think Trevor Noah's Born a Crime is better as an audiobook, because he's a terrific narrator, it's deeply personal and you can hear it in his voice, and you hear all the various African languages and accents. What books have you listened to that you thought were better as audiobooks than read as traditional books?
