For us, most tournaments were previously close (VA and MD), with just a couple of out of town tournaments. For those the team stayed together. Some parents went and stayed separately. In Myrtle Beach, for example, they rented a beach house and boys and coach stayed there. Some parents went and helped shuttle boys to activities when they weren't playing (e.g. mini golf, real golf) and others checked in on them when they were hanging out on the beach. One family had access to a condo near Myrtle Beach and the parents stayed there.

This year, DS is on a new, more competitive team with several tournaments scheduled in places like Myrtle Beach, Boston and Las Vegas, in addition to closer tournaments in NJ, PA and VA. Not quite sure how that will work out since their is no way we can travel to all of those, but I trust that the coaches have it worked out since they have been doing this for a long time.

My DS 14 just made a travel basketball team. Schedule shows tournament in OC, MD, Virginia Beach and other locations about three hours away.

Can we make a family trip out of these? Does DS have to stay with his team? Do the guys go unchaperoned and stay 2-3 to a room?

Asking because we have our own condo in VA Beach and want to stay there rather than spring for a hotel room or two.
