I knew some people that made that much money. They were big fish in a small pond.

Meaning that they were supposedly experts in systems that are not widely used.

OP, it kind of depends on your technical knowledge and what area of IT you're in and industry.

Yes, total technical experience. Either Federal or private.

If you are in the IT field but no technical or managerial experience -- what kind of work would you be doing, exactly? PM-type work or something else, like policy? Consulting? Are you looking in the Federal arena or private sector?

Within the DC area - would be a salary for a US-born citizen, not holding currently but eligible for security clearance, with top public (state) college-education, with MS in the Computer Science, 10-20 years of experience in the IT field. No tech lead and no managerial position experience. Very high professional skills level. Very efficient and very professional.
Completed leadership program but company never had any openings for managerial positions. What is a chance for finding employment, how long do you project it would take considering current job market, what would be a reasonable, achievable salary, opportunities for advancement, pay increase?
