If they haven't announced anything by now you should be fine. People who were going to call out sick should have done so by now, except the genuinely sick people who wake up ill in the morning of course.

Teachers must have started calling out sick this afternoon to take tomorrow off, instead of asking for leave in advance through personal leave.

Not the superintendent's fault it was so late notice, although he could have sent out a survey asking how many people planned to participate, I suppose.

Our school district has a shortage of substitutes and bus drivers on a good day, so it doesn't take much to make it unsafe to operate school safely.

This makes me really nervous MCPS will close with little notice.

I respect the decision, but hate that it was made so late. I would be very frustrated as a PG parent!

Agree. it's insane. But the notice makes it clear it is the fault of the teachers. If the schools can't safely operate then they get their stupid day off and to hell with the rest of us who now have to scramble for child care.

Prince George's Co. schools closed Wednesday for Day Without A Woman


Prince George's County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday for A Day Without A Woman.

PGCPS released the following statement on Tuesday:

"Throughout Prince George’s County Public Schools, a high number of school-based and support staff have requested leave for Wednesday, March 8. As of 5:30 p.m., approximately 1,700 teachers and 30 percent of transportation staff have requested leave. We cannot transport students and provide safe, productive learning environments without adequate staff. As a result, schools will be closed tomorrow for students. We apologize for the inconvenience this will surely cause to many families.

All employees will be expected to report for work or follow the normal procedures for leave requests.

Based on our policies, PGCPS and the Prince George’s County Board of Education have no political stance on “A Day Without a Woman.” Schools will open Thursday, March 9 on a normal schedule."

Alexandria City schools will also be closed on Wednesday.
