I would be leery about the small, obscure private colleges that have low endowments yet still give a lot of aid. Another one of them just shut down:

It's not a sustainable model.

Middle of nowhere. I can't think of a VA school that's easier to get into except maybe VA Wesleyan. If you know anyone at VT, then you drive the 1hr15min there every weekend. The Mets pitcher Billy Wagner went there.

My baby brother went there and loved it, until he failed out because he never went to class. It's a very small school in a very rural area and very isolated. Closest thing to campus is a walmart that you can go to to watch all the Mennonite people. So there is no college town, nothing. Everything on campus. Had lots of activities, clubs, sports teams, etc. but academically it's not well regarded as being a powerhouse. My brother had horrible grades and he got in. I couldn't believe it.

Virginia resident here. I would check out SLACs in Pennsylvania. There are many more than there are in Virginia. I'm from further north and don't quite understand this lack of small colleges in Virginia. ??

My (average stats) DD got a lot of mailings from Ferrum. As I recall, it was pretty small and had a low retention rate and wasn't a school in which she was interested.

There are a ton of small liberal arts colleges in central Virginia. You might want to compare it to some of the others like Roanoke College, Randolph College and Lynchburg College.

We came across the school in our college research and were surprised to find that it was in Virginia given that we'd never heard of it before in any detail. Any experiences/information/anything on the school? Thanks.
