DH was diagnosed with primary testicular failure and used clomid for 6 months in preparation for a TESE. The TESE was successful and we ended up with sperm in 2/4 tissue biopsies. We used the sperm from 1 of those biopsies in my IVF with ICSI cycle, and have a 1 year old little man. TESE success rates are low, so I definitely think that the clomid played a part in our success.

My husband has been on clomid since his varicocelectomy in Oct. 2015. His counts have gone up, not dramatically, but enough to get us from having to use donor sperm to having a chance at ICSI. It is still very much dependent on what happens on the day of my egg retrieval, but Dr. Chiles at GW feels confident.

Yes. His count went from 100 to 800,000. We froze the 800,000 and saved it for back up IVF-ICSI. Luckily, we never had to use it.

*correction, DH saw a urologist, not oncologist.

DH cannot remember his sperm count numbers before or during clomid use, with the exception of our IUI day. The day of the IUI the live sperm count post wash was 200,000 (not a typo), and he had only been taking clomid for a month or two. Sperm count numbers can vary wildly.

DH impregnated me 2 months later (he continued using clomid).

OP here, would you mind sharing what his counts were before he started clomid? Did he also have low testosterone?

We stopped fertility treatments after one IUI (I had an allergic reaction), but DH remained on clomid. Oncologist informed DH that the clomid may take a few months to work effectively. Worked for us!

Looking for stories on others who have used clomid to treat MFI. Did sperm count ultimately increase?
