She is not far from being correct. At 18 she became an adult and at that time gained the right to anything that is legal. That includes voting, joining the military, being able to serve on a jury, having sex with any adult no matter if he is 19 or 69.

Op I'm really surprised you didn't know the age of consent is 18 across the U.S. I think some states are lower. This speaks volumes about your parenting style and might be partially the reason for the strained relationship with your daughter. By the way what was the reason your husband left? Either way you should really work on improving your relationship with your daughter. it's concerning she is dating someone that old even if it's legal. There is a reason and you should be having an honest respectful conversation with her.

It's legal. May or may not be smart, healthy, or a good relationship, but it's legal. Age 21 is only relevant for drinking alcohol, otherwise age 18 is the legal age of majority for anything I can think of (and definitely for decisions about intimate relationships).

DD decided at 18 she can do whatever she wants. Ex DH left us and left us a 2 family house and his mother lives upstairs. That's another story but when DD turned 18 she immediately moved upstairs with her and decided she can do whatever she wants since she was 18 and not living with me. She won't take steps to protect her safety. She walks all hours of the night alone because "I'm an adult". I told her adults don't walk around all hours of the night because they care about their safety. I am an adult and I am never out past dark unless I need to go home somewhere.
