Homemade paper crowns for both, easy as pie. If you don't have construction paper, you can even use old magazine pages.

Dollar tree has crowns and princess stuff.

I frankly am not keen on the whole "princess thing," and dress my DD in a lot of green and blues. HOWEVER, this is some other child's party. They are throwing the party for her. Just like you throw a party for your kids that is based on what they'd like. As I said, I sort of shudder inside at the whole pink/girly thing, but I'm really with this poster. It's not about you, so either go or don't go, but don't judge the fact their child wants a birthday party that pleases her tastes.

FWIW, I had a party like this for my daughter when she was 6. I had some costumes on hand (and would be shocked if the host didn't). But, I will say, the kids has a blast dressed up. Just suck it up and do it. Or decline. Easy.

FWIW, I had a party like this for my daughter when she was 6. I had some costumes on hand (and would be shocked if the host didn't). But, I will say, the kids has a blast dressed up. Just suck it up and do it. Or decline. Easy.

You could go to dollar general and get all of these items for less than $5. Your kids will have fun. You could even make a crown and tiara out of paper if you don't want to buy anything.

If you don't want to participate, don't. Send polite regrets.
If you do, stick crowns and capes on your kids--maybe a tutu for your daughter if she wants-- and call it a day. But don't judge the host or host's kid for wanting such a party. And it was actually pretty considerate of the host to invite your son (probably didn't want to leave him out since his twin sis was going). Probably thought you'd figure the costume thing out on your own...

I think it's quite rude to invite a boy to a party and request princess attire. I'm sure he could come in his regular clothes and have fun but it pretty much screams "girly party" and would make me think that the invite was probably just for the daughter. Either the son was added at the last minute or it's an unvite for him.

I think the host should offer the attire.

A costume party is different, they could wear whatever costume they wanted instead of being required to wear a certain one.

Ask your kids what they want to do. Do they want to go to the party? Do they want to wear prince/princess outfits/crowns/tshirts? If they do, you can borrow a costume from someone or buy a t shit or accessory for cheap.

I have 5 year old twins (boy and girl) that were invited to my son's classmate's 6th birthday party. It's a princess theme party and requires the kids to wear princess attire. I think this is a silly request! My son obviously doesn't have princess attire, but neither does my daughter as she's not big on princesses. This is such a strange request for a party!
