And since GPAs are solely within the control of teachers, might they not feel pressure to grade in accordance with the goal?

Sucks for kids at the other middle schools.
Anonymous wrote:The 30% statement, which has been used since the "merger" is misleading. It is not a goal of 30% admission to the high school, but rather 30% eligible to take the test. Eligibility requires a certain GPA and standardized testing score. My understanding is that since the "merger" only a couple of FS kids have been admitted to the HS.

The improvement is visible. This change takes time to get teachers / programs in place and for kids to go through a couple years. Also, the school has a lot of OOB (lower SES). This is changing I've noticed the last 2 years and more IB kids stay. The school will be a good prep for a good shot at SWW HS, but we're a few years from that.

No preference to SWW high school but the same person is principal of both schools (yes that is weird).
SWWFS parent here. While there is no preference to the high school, the common principal is working to adjust the middle school so that something like 30% of the 8th graders get into the high school in 5 years from now. I may have those numbers slightly incorrect. If your child has a supportive family / is reasonably motivated, going to SWWFS could help but no guarantees.
