Your kid has to attend where he/she lives during the school week. Where the child lays his/her head during the majority of the school week determines where the child attends. If you can't afford to live in the catchment area, then you enroll in the school where you live. If the child goes to ex's house for before and/or aftercare, then you could apply for a student transfer. If child goes to ex's house only on the weekends, the child still could not automatically attend school in ex's neighborhood.

If you wanted child to go to school where ex lives, the ex would have to be the enrolling parent and live with ex for a majority of the school week, i.e. Mon, Tues & Wed night.

As long as you get your school mail at the Condo and provide your own transportation, your odds of being caught are pretty low. Especially if you haven't made any enemies at the condo to turn you in.

Yes, but what would the reason be for it? The parent has to check off one of the boxes. "Because I want my kid to go to this school" is not one of the choices.

A rule is a rule. What will she tell her child when they want to have friends over. "Sorry I'm lying about where we live so you can go to a better school, therefore you can not have friends over". Just obey the rules.

I turned in a HS kid whose parent was driving in daily from suburban Maryland and using relative's Fairfax address.
I heard back and was anonymously asked for some more details from a higher up truant officer but don't know outcome. Officer mentioned interviewing neighbors and actively catching parent drop off student.

No. I had a student who tried it this fall and was caught. She received a letter in the mail the week before school started stating she was not allowed to attend condo school and had to go to where she actually lived. She ended up missing the first day of school re-registering at her actual school.

I don't know how they caught her, but they definitely run checks.

No. You and your child must lay your head each night on a pillow that is in the school's catchment area. There are exception for which you can apply that are listed in PP's link above.

It's not about where you own property; it's about where you and your child live.

Hi...I own a condo from when I was single that is zoned to a particular school. Now I live a couple of miles away, but would like my kids to attend the school zoned to my condo, which is currently being rented out to a single adult. Is this allowed?
