Why are you holding female teachers to a different standard than other women? It's fine for an office worker or someone of another profession to not be at work but it's not ok for teachers? Women are women, whether they're teachers or engineers.

I will be going to work that day (specialist teacher) and will pissed if I get pulled to cover for a class due to lack of subs over this nonsense.

I wonder if this will help APS see that it needs to work to help The Children's School.

I work for FCPS in an elementary school. I haven't heard anything about this. Why the 8th?

If so, what is the point? What message is trying to be sent?

I've heard of not one. And I work in the schools.

OP here--I'm a teacher and I've heard it throughout my district. I'm not participating, but I know that many are saying they're planning to participate. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what March 8 brings.

When you say you've "heard" this, where and from whom have you heard it, OP? I'm pretty plugged in to our schools (FCPS) and have heard nothing at all like this. I find it impossible to believe teachers would do this to make a point, and as a PP notes, teachers have to put in for leave like this and no administrator is going to approve a bunch of mass absences in advance. I guess they could do a "sick out" but -- I just can't see teachers doing that.

Tell us where and in what context you're hearing it so any teachers reading here can nip the rumor.

In my FCPS elementary school, we have to have personal leave approved in advance. I am thinking if an administrator saw way to many requests for the same day, they would be denied. That being said, I have not heard a single teacher mention they will be doing this, and I am a very vocal, liberal teacher (meaning my friends at work would be comfortable telling me their intentions).

I've heard of many, many teachers requesting the day off on March 8. It's tough for our teachers to find subs on "regular" days. What would happen if we had the majority of teachers stay home on March 8? Would our schools have to close? Anyone hearing from your public school? Particularly interested in ACPS and FCPS.
