Why so harsh? I don't see when it's ever appropriate to be like that on this board. Many big box stores carry these iron cribs, and it's a valid question whether there are any safety or other issues with them.

Yes. Yes. Do what's you think looks best, who cares if it's safe and comfortable for your baby.

I just purchased an iron crib from Baby & Child Restoration Hardware and I love it. I don't think it's any heavier than a wooden crib

What about teething with the iron crib?

The bassinet we used is from the 1960's and it worked out just fine. Who knows but at least she'll have a nice crib for the time being, even if it's not passed down.

Ha! You probably won't be passing this down--all of today's cribs will probably be deemed unsafe by the time our kids have kids, just like our cribs are now deemed unsafe.

Our daughter threw up all over her bumper when she was first born and we were really happy we hadn't spent a fortune on it. The crib however was/is worth every penny. We will have it forever and I can pass it to one of my kids one day. It breaks down and can be stored easily under a bed or something in the future.

Wrought iron is H-E-A-V-Y -- pushing that around to get in and change the sheets (and change the sheets... and change the sheets...) is going to suck. And remember, all that pretty bedding doesn't actually go into the crib with your baby -- no quilt, no pillows and even bumpers are suspect.

I also agree with the PPs who pointed out the potential for being on a first-name basis with the good folks in the ER and dentist's office.

If you like the old-timey stuff, hit the flea markets or antique stores and pick up an old dresser you can use as a changing table, some buckets or pitchers in which to store diaper cream et al, or some sculptural iron pieces you can hang on the wall as art.

This is what i saw in the store and it was really pretty with the bedding they matched it up with.

I wouldn't buy a wrought iron crib--my kid fell and bumped into the crib rails all the time. Also he chewed on the crib--if it had been wrought iron his teeth would have broken out.

Where do you even buy one--I've never seen one in a store?

Are wrought iron cribs considered not as safe as wooden cribs. I seem to think the wrought iron cribs are so pretty and very antiquey but have been told they are unsafe since they don't give as much as a wooden crib wood. Any thought ladies?
